Silk is a material made from natural fibers with which the most beautiful fabrics that exist are designed.
A silk fabric must be ironed with particular care so as not to damage the fibers that make it up and preserve its beautiful appearance.
Ironing is optional when it comes to silk bedding (sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, etc.). Once silk sheets and pillowcases are placed on the bed, they will naturally smooth out.
For other silk textiles, if they are very wrinkled after washing, you will need to iron them while they are slightly damp so that the creases are removed more easily.
Here are some guidelines to follow when ironing silk:
First of all, make sure you have a spray bottle on hand as silk fabrics can burn quickly if they are completely dry.
1. Start by setting the iron to “silk” and turning the fabric over. The shiny side should be down and it is the duller, matte side that will be in contact with the iron.
2. Keep the iron moving to prevent the silk from burning and especially do not iron the same part for more than 5 seconds.
3. Allow your silk fabrics to cool completely before folding and storing them.
As you will have understood, ironing silk requires time and patience, but its many benefits are worth paying all the necessary attention to.
Indeed, in addition to its magnificent appearance, silk has multiple properties, including incredible anti-acne, anti-aging and hypoallergenic properties. Silk works miracles on the skin and hair and promotes peaceful and restful sleep.
Properly maintained, silk textiles will remain intact and will continue to provide us with all their benefits for several years.
